YOUR LOCAL FARM

Good People... Do you have a local farm in your community?  If so, visit often.  I am very lucky to live three miles from Oak Hill Farm in Glen Ellen, CA.

On a lovely sunny day I had the marvelous opportunity to chat with Krysia Zaroda of Oak Hill Farm in Glen Ellen. Sitting just steps away from a flowering quince and wild plum tree, I learned about this incredible, and in my opinion, magical place right here in our Valley of the Moon.

They grow over 200 delicious agricultural products. With their team of 10 hardworking people from our community they keep Oak Hill Farm a vital link between the land and our community.  Their team is striving to create a thriving business under a principle of long term sustainable and environmental practices.

During my chat with Krysia the farm's manager, the sun was shining on my face and the breeze was just so and I felt so grateful to live in such an amazing community near this historical farm that’s been serving our valley for over 50 years. Oak Hill Farm 700 acres is the flagship property entrusted into the Sonoma Land Trust. Out of those 700 acres they farm 25 acres and since 1957 they have not used pesticides, chemical herbicides or chemical fertilizers. I certainly enjoy OHF’s produce often and can attest that their veggies are for sure pure and most certainly delicious.

One of the things I love about Oak Hill Farm is that they support agricultural diversity in the valley. “If it’s all mono-crops, our local ecosystem will have a tough time surviving,” Krysia lets me know with passionate concern.
“We strive each day to create the healthiest of soil and a green and lush landscape,” she adds. Krysia’s philosophy is to continue to shape the farm into a lean mean machine! I asked her what she meant by that. She said, “Cutting out any waste by selling everything they grow and making sure that anything that comes out of the ground goes into someone’s belly or vase!” Cheers to that!

Oh and they have 20 bee hives! Sweet!  Bees Rule!  (They really do)
