UNIQUE WINE COUNTRY EXPERIENCE.

The day after 4th of July I took a drive out to Napa. Napa is not far from home just about a 30 minute drive over Trinity Road. I had no destination in mind I just drove down Hwy 29 towards Calistoga. I saw a banner draped across the Markham Vineyards sign that said Rock & Roll Photography so I signaled right and turned in. I had never been to Markham. I'd heard about their wines though. When you walk in to the tasting room through gorgeous and very tall wooden doors you'll find the gallery to the left. On the crisp white walls hang some of Baron Wolman's most choice rock photos from the late 60's: The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin to name a few... I like how they show the original photo and the photo as it looked on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine before it was a glossy magazine. Baron Wolman was Rolling Stone's first editor of photography. I was born in April of 1969 in the Haight Ashbury so I'm totally awakened by Rock & Roll history made in San Francisco.  Mr. Wolman got his start a couple of years earlier in April of 1967 in San Francisco. So cool. After I browsed the historic and in my opinion breathtaking photos I made my way over to the tasting bar. I was greeted by Steve and he led me through a tasting of their divine wines. I opted for the Rock & Roll tasting.  Here's the skinny: I tried the: 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, 2011 Merlot, 2011 Chardonnay and 2010 Cabernet. It was even across the board. I could go into the tasting notes about each bottle but wine tasting is so unique to each person's palate. Yea, I could say hints of peach, a mellow oak finish etc... I've done a fair amount of wine tasting and I would say that Markham wines simply taste good. I had no complaints. Oh, and Markham Vineyards is one of Napa Valley's first wineries! Celebrate Rock & Roll and taste some good vino.  They have some cool Rock & Roll items on sale in their boutique too.  A visit to Markham Vineyards is a unique wine country experience (for sure).
